Love, ASM Book Fairy

Happy Halloween!

There were 3 book fairies floating around ASM yesterday.   : )

Giovanna, Angela, and I each created our own book fairy costume out of old, weeded books. We each had a tutu skirt, wings, and wand. It was a lot of fun - the students loved it! (...the 3- and 4- year olds all the way through the high schoolers)

One of the 10th-grade students in the Digital Literacy course that I'm teaching asked me if my costume was made out of all reliable sources. HA! Smart Alec in the perfect way.

I sent a photo of this costume idea to my mom a few years ago and she made her own book fairy costume that year at Cobbles Elementary! I've been wanting to try it but haven't gotten around to making the idea come to fruition. This year, Angela (the elementary librarian) saw the idea on Pinterest and we basically said that we both wanted to do it... at the same time! It was meant to be. And Giovanna (library assistant) was a great sport to join in on the fun with us.

Each of our skirts and wings were a bit different since we each made our own. It was great! The kids were so excited and we had many comments on our creativity level - YEAH! Haha.

There is going to be a recycled materials fashion show in a couple weeks at school. 5th graders through IB high schools have been creating clothing out of recycled materials (such as books, newspapers, and magazines!)... and they've asked us if our book fairy outfits can be in the show! Very cool.
